The CLAS Academic Services Center supports students on academic notice in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The Center coordinates a team of Academic Success Advisors trained to help students meet their academic goals.
Students on academic notice or continued academic notice must complete several steps before they can enroll in classes for the next semester.
About Academic Notice
Academic Notice is a status assigned to students whose academic performance falls below the University’s required academic standards.
A student is placed on academic notice if their semester or cumulative GPA drops below 2.0. Students who do not meet the institution’s academic standards for two consecutive semesters are subject to dismissal from the University. Students on academic notice or continued academic notice have an Academic Standing Hold (ASH) placed on their account, limiting their ability to register for classes. Students can remove this hold by completing all the Steps to Success

What is an Academic Success Advisor?
An Academic Success Advisor is different from your assigned major advisor. They are specially trained to provide guidance to students experiencing academic/personal challenges. An Academic Success Advisor can help you develop strategies and identify resources that empower you to reach your full potential as a student and meet your goals at the University.
Steps to Success
All CLAS students on academic notice or continued academic notice must take three easy steps to connect with an Academic Success Advisor. Students must complete all three steps before they can enroll in classes for the next semester.
Students who complete these steps early in the semester have better academic outcomes and a stronger support network.
Step 1: Complete Your Academic Success Plan
You must complete an Academic Success Plan before meeting with an Academic Success Advisor. Completing the Academic Success Plan helps your advisor get to know you, your challenges, and your academic goals. This plan will make your meeting more productive and help your advisor tailor strategies and resources to fit your needs.
If you are a student on academic notice, retained on a successful dismissal appeal, or readmitted on academic notice or after a dismissal, you have received an email to your UConn email address from the Office of Undergraduate Advising from either advising@studentservices.uconn.edu or studentsphere@uconn.edu with a unique link to your personal academic success plan. If you do not see an email from the Office of Undergraduate Advising, please check your spam/junk folder in Outlook.

Step 2: Schedule Your Academic Success Meeting
Next, please call the CLAS Academic Services Center at 860-486-2822 to schedule an appointment with an Academic Success Advisor.
We will work with you to find a meeting time and pair you with an Academic Success Advisor who is available to meet based on your schedule. Please know your 7-digit student ID number and your availability when calling to schedule an appointment.
If you get our voicemail, please leave a message including your name, 7-digit student ID number, and your phone number, and we will return your call.
Step 3: Meet with Your Academic Success Advisor
Finally, you must attend your scheduled meeting with an Academic Success Advisor.
These meetings typically last 30 minutes to an hour. During the meeting, you will go over your academic standing, discuss challenges you faced during the previous semester, and review campus resources and supports available to you.
Note: If you are subject to dismissal at the end of the semester and you choose not to meet with an Academic Success Advisor, it is unlikely that your appeal will be successful.

Students on academic notice should complete the Steps to Success as early in the semester as possible.
- More than 80% of the students who have returned to good standing completed their Steps to Success within the first four weeks of the semester.
- Appointments fill up quickly. We cannot guarantee you can schedule an appointment before your enrollment time if you delay in scheduling an appointment. Schedule an appointment now to ensure your hold is lifted before registration.
Academic Calendar Dates
University Holds
The University places a registration hold on your account after the 10th day of classes. The Academic Standing Hold (ASH) will be lifted after you complete all three Steps to Success.
Course Enrollment
Registration re-opens on July 27, 2026 at 9 a.m. for Fall 2026.
Course Withdrawals
The last day to withdraw from a course is Monday, November 16, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. If you withdraw from a course, we encourage you to not wait until just before 11:59 p.m. just in case there are any system issues with the online form. To withdraw from a class, fill out the Enrollment Change Form on the Registrar’s website.

Does the Academic Service Center accept walk-ins to meet with an Academic Success Advisor?
Students completing an academic success plan must schedule an appointment by calling 860-486-2822. Our Academic Success Advisors prepare to provide you with the best guidance and support possible.
When should I schedule an appointment?
We recommend that you meet with an Academic Success Advisor at the start of the semester. Appointments fill up quickly. Call 860-486-2822 to schedule an appointment now to ensure the registration hold (ASH) is lifted before registration. If you choose to wait to schedule your appointment until later in the semester, we cannot guarantee our appointment availability before your enrollment time.
How can I prepare for my Academic Success Plan meeting?
Complete the Academic Success Plan prior to your meeting. Take time to fill out the plan and reflect upon your previous semester. The more information you are comfortable sharing, the more productive the meeting will be. If you arrive at your meeting and your Academic Success Plan is not completed, you will have to reschedule your appointment. Please arrive on time for the meeting. If you need to reschedule your appointment, please give us a call at 860-486-2822.
What happens if I do not complete my Academic Success Plan and/or do not meet with an Academic Success Advisor?
Your registration (ASH) hold will not be lifted. The Academic Services Center will not temporarily lift your hold so you may register for classes before having your meeting. If you are subject to dismissal at the end of the semester and you chose not to meet with us, it’s unlikely that your appeal will be successful.
How do I return to Good Standing?
Students who earn a semester and cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher will return to good standing at the end of the semester.
How do I withdraw from a course?

Can I place a course on Pass/Fail with an academic standing of academic notice?
No, students who are not in good academic standing may not place courses on pass/fail. Review the current UConn Pass/Fail Policy.
